ABOUT

BACKGROUND


Lee Gold is from Cape Town, South Africa and has recently relocated to the UK. She has been playing piano since she was 8-years old and after many years of paying her musical dues, she has blossomed into a beautiful, talented and professional singer and pianist. After high school she went on to study Jazz at the University of Cape Town's "South African College of Music". There she studied under jazz masters Dr Andrew Lilley and Prof Mike Campbell. After completing her undergraduate jazz piano degree Lee immediately went on to do a postgraduate diploma in jazz vocals and graduated with Distinction. Lee has been fortunate to receive private tutelage from top international singers Deborah Tanguy and Natascha Roth.

 

MUSICAL DIRECTOR


Lee has gained lots of experience from being the Musical Director of several shows particularly at the Roxy Revue Theatre at Grandwest Casino and other theatres in Cape Town. In 2012 Lee was the Musical director for “The Eve” which formed part of a woman’s week showcase at Artscape. Here Lee performed along side top jazz vocalists Melanie Scholtz and Amanda Tiffin. Besides being the musical director and arranging all the songs, Lee also played piano and sang in the show.

 

THE LOCAL STAGE


Lee has worked with some of South Africa's top musicians, including Judith Sephuma, Loyiso Bala, Arno Carstens, Zolani Maholo, Ard Matthews and Mi Casa.

 

THE INTERNATIONAL STAGE


This year saw Lee play keyboards and sing backing vocals for international renowned singer Ed Roland of COLLECTIVE SOUL.

 

 

TRAVELS


Lee has done much travelling over the past couple of years, playing at several venues in Dubai, Mauritius and the UK.

In 2009, she travelled to OHIO, USA to attend a Jazz Vocal camp lead by the grammy-nominated vocal group “NEW YORK VOICES”. There she was tutored by all 4 of the NEW YORK VOICES and was asked to perform a song as an opening to their concert.

In 2008 she was chosen as a finalist in the FMR/PICK ‘N PAY travel award competition.

 

SESSION WORK

 
Lee has had the privilege of being hired as a session vocalist, in various studios, and she works regularly for SAMA Award winning producer, Theo Crous as well as Heypapalegend Studios. Lee’s vocals can be heard on one of the “Lux Soap” advertisement campaign as well as one of the several new Nokia Smartphone advertisements. Lee also played and sang the theme tune on a South African film called "Lucky Man".
